Serendipity.

It all begins with an idea. A dream. A vision. Mine started with a house.

My husband Tim and I will be married one year this August. We met and worked together at a technology start up 5 years ago. Together we have 3 big dogs in a (previously) very small house (Molly, Bugsy, Duncan… don’t worry you’ll hear plenty more about them), we spent our honeymoon getting lost around France, and survived remodeling a bathroom together with zero experience (and it was the only bathroom in the house). And now we are about to dive into our biggest adventure yet, Forest Lane.

Three years ago we were driving to Red Lodge, MT to celebrate Christmas, just a couple of kids taking a winter road trip to the mountains. The drive from Minneapolis to Red Lodge is about 14 hours. So what exactly do best friends / newly dating / who-knows-what-our-title-was pair of humans talk about for 18 hours?… Well, our future kids’ names of course.

Yep, right out of the gate; Just a week after we said “I love you” in the kitchen of our little house on Stowe during our first Christmas together, we couldn’t wait to start planning the rest of our life. Tim is usually the cautious one, whereas I see something I want and I’m all in (this will become a recurring theme as we progress through this journey). By the end of our child name-game, we landed on Forrest Lane for a boy. My great grandfather’s name was Forrest, and both Tim and I love nature so it seemed like the perfect fit. As for Lane? (Layne, you know I’ll let you take all of the credit). Well, I guess that’s what happens when you’re naming your kids when it’s late at night and you’re tired of driving (honestly, I start losing my mind once we pass Medora).

Long story short, still no children yet, but little did we know that we would eventually be married and buying a 4,020 sq. ft. rambler on Forest Lane just three years later. Life is funny sometimes. So that’s the start of our story, where it all began. And it’s just the beginning. Follow along to see the good, the bad, and the beautiful as we renovate our new dream house on Forest Lane.
